How to Write a Nurse or Healthcare Worker Resume

A nurse or healthcare resume has a set of hard requirements most other fields don't: a specific license, often specific certifications, and sometimes specific clinical exposure a hiring manager needs to verify fast. Put your license front and center

Your license type, number (if the application requests it), state, and status belong prominently — either in your header alongside contact info, or as the very first line under your name:

List certifications by their recognized abbreviation

Patient satisfaction scores, reduction in wait times, successful patient outcomes tied to a specific intervention, or training/mentoring newer staff are all legitimate, quantifiable achievements in this field.

Name your EHR systems and specialty skills

Common mistakes

• Burying your license or certifications in a skills list instead of giving them their own visible section. These need to be found instantly, not read into.
• Vague patient-care language with no scope or number. "Provided excellent patient care" says nothing verifiable — caseload size, specific interventions, and outcomes do.
• Omitting a current certification's expiration or renewal status when it's relevant — some employers filter specifically on active, current certifications, so ambiguity here can cost you a screen you'd otherwise pass.
